bicycles / bikes I like

momovelo Cheeseboard:

A.N.T. Scorcher:

At one point, I thought it would be great to have a shop selling city bikes that people would really love, ones that were sensible in spirit, but with enough eccentricity to keep things interesting. Then I discovered momovelo's line of customized rides, and I realized that there was already someone doing this, and better than I could imagine doing it myself. So what if he's in Berkeley. My bicycle tendencies are a bit more Bay Area than Bay Ridge...

Anyhow, the momovelo bikes are almost universally excellent. The Cheeseboard is probably my favorite, along with the Gilman...

...and the Mini Royal:

So the first two are (I assume) just Surly framesets (a 1x1 and a Steamroller?) with custom powder coats and well-selected componentry--but it's done so well.

Visit the site, and look around: momovelo.com

A.N.T. bikes are all pretty damn nice in that good city bike kind of way, but this old-style ride stands out. I'm not really into coaster brakes, but otherwise, this thing looks like a lot of fun.

Take a look at the site... the Light Roadster is also a favorite.

Jitensha Ebisu:

Ah... walking into the Jitensha studio/shop in Berkeley is refreshing... everything just feels kind of right. Very clean, very real bikes. Jitensha.com

Biomega Copenhagen:

Biomega is probably best known for the monocoque bikes designed by Marc Newson, but they also make these great shaft-drive clean machines that I think are much cooler. Biomega.dk
